Brentwood hosts Ravenwood at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, in the Battle of the Wood, a Region 6-6A regular-season finale with region-title implications for both programs.
The Bruins enter the stretch run at 7-1 overall and 4-0 in region play after beating Franklin 23-3 on Oct. 8, as first reported by the Williamson Herald. That victory extended Brentwood's streak in the Franklin series to 11 consecutive games.
Ravenwood is 5-2 overall and 3-0 in region play, according to MaxPreps. The Raptors sit second in Region 6-6A. They've won four straight, outscoring opponents 231-101 on the season, including a 56-0 rout of Franklin on Sept. 18 and a 63-28 win at Independence on Oct. 2.
The matchup pits Brentwood's stingy defense against Ravenwood's high-scoring attack. In the Franklin game, the Bruins held the Admirals to 70 total yards. Bobby Grimes led the defense with eight tackles, and Hudson Turner, Tanner Robb and Addis Jugovic each recorded a sack.
"The D-line has played really well," coach Clint Finch told the Williamson Herald on Oct. 9. "Our secondary is playing really well. We knew that it had the potential to be a really good group for us, and they've lived up to the hype."
Junior quarterback Gavin Strang threw for 290 yards and two touchdowns against Franklin, completing 26 of 34 passes. Strang told the Williamson Herald he has stopped forcing throws and reduced turnovers compared to last season.
Ravenwood's offense has been prolific, averaging 33 points per game. The Raptors' lone losses came against Lipscomb Academy (16-6 on Aug. 28) and Green Hill (29-28 on Sept. 4).
Both teams still have work to do before the rivalry finale. Brentwood hosts Independence on Friday, Oct. 23. Finch told the Williamson Herald that Independence has a strong quarterback and receiver, and that the Bruins will need to be sharp on defense coming off the bye week. Ravenwood hosts Shelbyville Central on Friday, Oct. 16, then travels to Coffee County Central on Oct. 23.
Kickoff for the Battle of the Wood is 7 p.m. at Brentwood.
