Ravenwood's girls soccer team will face No. 4 Bearden in the first round of the TSSAA Class AAA state tournament Tuesday, Oct. 27, in Chattanooga.
The fifth-seeded Raptors (13-2) open against the Bulldogs (16-3-1) at Howard School, according to the TSSAA bracket posted Oct. 25. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m. Eastern, or 12:30 p.m. Central for fans making the trip from Brentwood, according to the Williamson Herald.
Ravenwood earned its state berth with a 1-0 win over Gallatin in the sectional round Saturday, Oct. 24, the Herald reported. That capped a postseason run that included back-to-back penalty-kick victories over rival Franklin, first in the District 10-AAA final and then in the Region 5-AAA championship.
The region title game went scoreless through regulation and two overtimes before Ravenwood won 3-2 in PKs, according to the Herald's coverage of the match. Sophomore goalkeeper Emma West made three penalty-kick saves. Junior forward Tatum Hartshorn, a Georgia Southern commit and the team's leading scorer, converted the first of three straight Ravenwood PKs, and Allie Gay buried the clincher.
"She practices PKs a lot. We just have trust in her, and we know that she will get the job done," Hartshorn said of West, according to the Herald.
Hartshorn enters the state tournament with 23 goals and seven assists this season, according to the Tennessean, which listed her among the top players in the tournament field. Bearden senior Madi Bowlin, a Lubbock Christian commit, brings 12 goals and 16 assists for the Bulldogs.
The winner of Ravenwood-Bearden advances to a Wednesday, Oct. 28, semifinal at 4 p.m. Eastern against the winner of No. 1 Houston versus No. 8 Oakland. The Class AAA championship game is set for Friday, Oct. 30, at Finley Stadium.
Tickets for non-championship games are $13 in advance through GoFan or $15 cash at the gate, the Tennessean reported. Championship-game tickets are $15 on GoFan and $20 at the gate.
Ravenwood is not alone in the bracket from Williamson County. No. 3 Franklin (19-2) faces No. 6 Stewarts Creek (18-1-1) at 4 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday in the other half of the draw.
