Ravenwood's girls soccer season ended Tuesday, Oct. 27, with a 2-1 loss to No. 4 Bearden in the TSSAA Class AAA state quarterfinal at Howard School in Chattanooga.
The No. 5 Raptors led 1-0 at halftime, according to MaxPreps, but Bearden scored twice in the second half to take the match. The TSSAA state tournament bracket confirmed the 2-1 final. Bearden advances to Wednesday's semifinal against No. 1 Houston at 4 p.m. at Howard School.
Individual goal scorers were not available at publication time.
Ravenwood entered the tournament riding a postseason surge that included a district title, a region championship and a sectional shutout of Gallatin. Both the district and region crowns came via penalty kicks against Franklin, with sophomore goalkeeper Emma West making multiple saves in each shootout.
Junior forward Tatum Hartshorn, a Georgia Southern commit, led the Raptors' attack all season with 23 goals and seven assists, according to The Tennessean. Bearden countered with senior Madi Bowlin, a Lubbock Christian commit who posted 12 goals and 16 assists.
The loss ends a memorable run for coach Liz Kappler's squad. Ravenwood won the District 10-AAA title by handing previously unbeaten Franklin its first loss, then beat the Admirals again for the Region 5-AAA crown, as the Williamson Herald reported. West stopped three penalty kicks in the region final alone.
"She practices PKs a lot," Hartshorn told the Williamson Herald after the region championship. "We just have trust in her, and we know that she will get the job done."
The Raptors then blanked Gallatin 1-0 on Saturday, Oct. 24, to clinch the program's state berth, as we reported Oct. 25. The TSSAA bracket listed Ravenwood at 13-2 entering the quarterfinal.
The Class AAA state championship game is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30, at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga.
