Nolensville sophomore Audrey King shot a 77 in the opening round of the TSSAA Class AA Girls Golf State Championship at Sevierville Golf Club on Thursday, Oct. 8, placing her tied for 11th in the field.
Senior Rika Arnett posted an 85, tied for 29th.
The two-day tournament wrapped up Friday, Oct. 9. Dickson County's Poppy Pewitt repeated as individual state champion with a two-day score of 1-under 139, and Ooltewah captured the team title at 12-over 292, according to the Tennessean. Page finished as team runner-up.
King's and Arnett's final individual standings after the second round have not been published.
Both competed as individual qualifiers. The Knights finished second at the Region 5-AA Tournament on Sept. 29 at Franklin Bridge Golf Club, shooting a team 149 behind Page's 142, according to the Williamson Herald. King shot a 74 and Arnett a 75 at regionals to punch their tickets to Sevierville.
Ooltewah's Alli Troxell led the state field after Day 1 with a 3-under 67, the Chattanoogan reported. The Owls held an 11-shot team lead over Clarksville heading into the final round.
King and Arnett entered the season as the program's two returning region-tournament competitors. Head coach Chris Ladd called them "instrumental" in a Sept. 18 preseason interview with Nolensville Town Life, adding that the program's annual goal is to finish top three in the district and send individuals to the state tournament.
Both cleared those benchmarks. The state championship was the final event of the fall girls golf season. King, a sophomore, has two more years of eligibility with the Knights.
