Sophia Fayz scored with 7:49 remaining to lift the Ravenwood Lady Raptors past Independence 2-1 in the AAA District 10 girls soccer semifinal Monday, Oct. 5.

The comeback win sends Ravenwood to the district championship game Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Ravenwood.

Independence drew first blood. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead, putting the Lady Raptors behind on their home field.

Ravenwood answered. Terah Moss found the back of the net to level the score at 1-1, setting the stage for a tense finish.

Fayz delivered the decisive moment. With under eight minutes on the clock, she put Ravenwood ahead 2-1, according to live updates from the team's official X account. The Lady Raptors held the lead through the final whistle.

The rally was no surprise for a squad that has dominated opponents throughout the fall. During the regular season, Ravenwood beat Summit 3-1 and defeated Independence 5-2 during the week of Sept. 15, according to Ravenwood's schedule.

Head coach Liz Kappler's group also topped crosstown rival Brentwood 4-1 on Sept. 24, according to results posted by Brentwood. That regular-season run gave the Lady Raptors strong momentum heading into the district tournament.

Monday's semifinal was not the only action for the Ravenwood soccer program. The JV Lady Raptors also took the field for their own district semifinal against Independence on the same evening, according to the team's X account.

The Lady Raptors' opponent in Tuesday's championship game had not been confirmed as of publication. The Brentwood schedule lists the district championship for Oct. 6 at Ravenwood, but the other semifinal winner was not identified in available sources.

Ravenwood will look to cap its playoff run with a district title on its home pitch Tuesday evening.
