Defending state champion Summit eliminated two Williamson County programs in one day.

The No. 3-seeded Spartans swept Ravenwood 25-21, 25-17, 25-10 in the District 10-AAA quarterfinal Wednesday, Oct. 7. Summit then beat No. 2-seeded Nolensville 25-22, 25-20, 25-22 in the semifinal that evening, as first reported by the Williamson Herald. Summit will face top-seeded Franklin in the district championship Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. at Summit High School.

Both results end the seasons for Ravenwood and Nolensville. The Raptors finished 13-19. The Knights closed at 27-6.

Senior Everleigh DeShazo powered Summit's attack all day. She recorded 17 kills against Ravenwood and followed with a match-best 18 kills and three blocks against Nolensville. DeShazo has committed to play beach volleyball at Florida Gulf Coast University.

"I think they left the line open a lot," DeShazo said after the quarterfinal. "We saw that and kept swinging hard."

Senior Emery Estep added 10 kills in the Ravenwood match and seven kills with four aces against Nolensville. Senior Madison Spelta contributed seven kills in the opener. Setter Raegan Burtch ran the Summit offense in both matches and added an ace in the third set against Ravenwood.

Ravenwood's young roster looks ahead

Ravenwood sophomore Emmalin Klein cut Summit's first-set lead to 14-13 with an ace, but the Spartans pulled away from there. Raptors coach Cole Davis said the majority of his roster is sophomores.

"They now have had a whole year of experience playing at the varsity level," Davis said. "Coming in as juniors, they're going to be veterans of the game."

Nolensville rallies fall short

Nolensville had beaten Summit on Sept. 29 in four sets during the regular season. The Knights entered the semifinal as the No. 2 seed and the 2024 Class AAA state champions.

The rematch went differently. Summit coach Warne Riker said his team focused on staying ahead. Nolensville's Jaycie Stitt served four consecutive aces in the second set to erase a 10-point deficit and grab a 20-18 lead, but Summit rallied to win the set 25-20.

Natalie Bane, Josie Ladd, Kamryn Knox and Avery Haynes each recorded at least six kills for the Knights. Knox and Ladd combined for five blocks. Nolensville coach Brett Young, as the Herald reported, said his team showed grit but could not close sets.

"They won all three, but it didn't feel like a 3-0 type of game," Young said.

The semifinal win also punched Summit's ticket to the Region 5-AAA tournament for the second time in program history. The Spartans face Franklin for the district title.
